SILICON SPIES is set in 2079 after global warming has melted the ice caps, creating billions of refugees and locking humanity in a battle for survival. Governments fell as the oceans rose and the multinationals stepped in to house, feed and ultimately, rule.

The Corporations are headquartered for safety in shielded cities, the largest being Canberra. Like a medieval castle, the city of Canberra houses the richest safe from the weather’s tyranny beneath a perspex sky, while the aspirants cling to the outer ring wall and the poor take their chances in the surrounding slum districts

Through this dystopic world move two carefree data thieves. Rez, dark and with an attitude that can kill, is a merc for hire in a world were life is cheap, all drugs are designer and information is the only currency worth a damn. Annika, a blond bombshell with a brain to match, is genetically-modified to link wirelessly with any computer system. She’s quick, smart and scary with information.

When the mystery client Cassandra hires Rez for a daring theft from the BioCorp citadel, Rez finds the target is the captive woman Annika.

Annika is scouring BioCorp systems for proof that her supposedly stillborn child is in fact alive. Agreeing to escape together, Rez’s fists are a perfect match for Annika’s almost supernatural hacking ability, and the Silicon Spies are born.

From different worlds, Rez wants to get out while Annika wants to get even. Matters complicate when Herr Messer, CEO of BioCorp, sends The Colonel and his mercs to retrieve Annika at any cost.

Annika and Rez develop an uneasy alliance but when a terrible truth emerges of how Rez led BioCorp to capture of Annika’s boy, Annika goes rogue and the pathological Rez must track down her new partner.

The more human she becomes, the more those around Rez tear themselves apart. While the Spies try to restore the world’s weather, Rez freelances as hired bodyguard, and Annika is the perfect cyber PI. They blackmail ex-lovers and companies alike.

Annika’s quest to find her son collides head on with Herr Messer’s goal to cheat death. Messer has kidnapped Jacob and accelerated his growth through hormones. Messer aims to download his 100 year old intellect into that of the super child, and ultimately confront Annika in an epic struggle to the death.

Rez’s journey over the series reflects that of Earth’s, her early chaos a reflection of the world out-of-order. Through Annika, she finds a purpose beyond sating her own desires for drugs and violence, and becomes driven to find the secret of Storm Fury, the weapon that might just right the lethal weather decline.
